Getting down to Business

Now that I have the name. Its time to get down to business. I had already sold at least ten pair, and taken several pictures, so I was content with the progress that I had made in a short time.

One day I was on facebook, and one of my friends told me that he was in search of artists to promote on his blog my talk radio. So I immediately told my husband to call in and advertise himself as a comedian. So he called in later , spoke his piece and handed me the phone to promote my earrings. I stuttered through the entire show. I had no intentions of advertising, but Dennis and my husband encouraged me to at least try. Later on that night after the show ended, a lady by the name of Dreena contacted me about possibly marketing my earrings. At the time I was hesitant, but she encouraged me to at least get business cards, a blog, and secure my domain name.....so I did.

Within a weeks time I had created a logo, a business card, a banner for my studio on Artfire, and I had also set up a paypal account. And so ladies and gents, I thought I had done all that I was supposed to do, only to find out that I had to keep going......

The Name

The first time I sold a pair of HypnoEars was in April 2009. A client took an interest and requested a pair the same colors as the ones that I had in my ear. I had no idea of how much to charge, so I gave her a price and asked her to give me a week. One week later, I delivered my first pair of earrings....but still no name for them.

After that first pair sold, my co-workers began putting in their orders as well. So I created an excel spreadsheet to keep up with the orders. Before I decided to create business cards, I needed a name. So I surveyed friends, family, and clients. Some names were AfroSonic, Earrings by Olivia, Oliviyarn..and others that I can't remember.

One day my husband I were on our way to an Atlanta Dream basketball game. My husband looked at me while I was working on a new design and he said..."Those earrings hypnotize...". I screamed "HypnoEars". He laughed and said that may work. And that was the day my earrings adopted the name HypnoEars.

How it all began

It all started in January while I was sitting in the ER, waiting to see if my little mini me in my belly was going to be ok. I sat there with my bag of yarn and knitted to keep my mind off of the nervousness that I felt about possibly losing my child.

My friend sat next to me and encouraged me to keep going. That moment sparked my journey to freedom...freedom from working for others, and going into business for myself. And that my friends was the beginning of Hypnoears.

It wasn't always called HypnoEars. In fact it didn't have a name or begin as a business venture. It was just something to do to pass my time on bedrest. My first earring was not my greatest work of art, but it was a start.

My husband told me to keep that earring as a reminder of how I started.....In fact here it is..
