Ten Myths for Entrepreneurs

This is a link that I found for small business owners. Enjoy...

One year anniversary

HypnoEars is officially year old. They have come a long way, but I still have a ways to go. My goals for the year are to launch the website, participate in a few opportunities for vending, as well as sell HypnoEars in at least 10 boutiques. So far I have a few places that I need to contact. The first retail store that HypnoEars made its first appearance in has 2 pair of HypnoEars left..

I will also be hiring a production assistant in the near future. Starting a business can be frustrating, but I refuse to tap out. I have to keep going for me and my family. HypnoEars won't tap out.

The Sacrifice

I have been diligently working all week to finish up my next shipment of HypnoEars. I am giving 10 pair away for promo purposes to a new boutique opening in Newark , New Jersey. This has also given me an opportunity to get some good product shots for my new website. If all goes well, the site will launch by the end of this month. Here is a sneek peak at one of the new pair.

My brother who is working on the site with me, has also designed my new business cards. I am so excited, but I will be even more excited when we are finished with the site. Who new that this new journey would be so exciting...and also require so much hard work.

The Designs

So far I had the following designs:

My first design that I made originally had three colors, but since I had the name HypnoEars, I had to do a signature pair :

So now that orders are coming in , I start to tap into some creative energy and create more designs. With the help of my mathematically inclined friends, we created a 3D pattern. The one pictured below is a 3D Burgundy pair.

One of my coworkers asked for a special pair...one that she could wear to rep her country....Jamaica

Can't forget about Nigeria:

Or Ghana:

These are just some of the designs. Stay tuned for my special Valentine's Day limited edition pair, as well as other designs...

Getting down to Business

Now that I have the name. Its time to get down to business. I had already sold at least ten pair, and taken several pictures, so I was content with the progress that I had made in a short time.

One day I was on facebook, and one of my friends told me that he was in search of artists to promote on his blog my talk radio. So I immediately told my husband to call in and advertise himself as a comedian. So he called in later , spoke his piece and handed me the phone to promote my earrings. I stuttered through the entire show. I had no intentions of advertising, but Dennis and my husband encouraged me to at least try. Later on that night after the show ended, a lady by the name of Dreena contacted me about possibly marketing my earrings. At the time I was hesitant, but she encouraged me to at least get business cards, a blog, and secure my domain name.....so I did.

Within a weeks time I had created a logo, a business card, a banner for my studio on Artfire, and I had also set up a paypal account. And so ladies and gents, I thought I had done all that I was supposed to do, only to find out that I had to keep going......

The Name

The first time I sold a pair of HypnoEars was in April 2009. A client took an interest and requested a pair the same colors as the ones that I had in my ear. I had no idea of how much to charge, so I gave her a price and asked her to give me a week. One week later, I delivered my first pair of earrings....but still no name for them.

After that first pair sold, my co-workers began putting in their orders as well. So I created an excel spreadsheet to keep up with the orders. Before I decided to create business cards, I needed a name. So I surveyed friends, family, and clients. Some names were AfroSonic, Earrings by Olivia, Oliviyarn..and others that I can't remember.

One day my husband I were on our way to an Atlanta Dream basketball game. My husband looked at me while I was working on a new design and he said..."Those earrings hypnotize...". I screamed "HypnoEars". He laughed and said that may work. And that was the day my earrings adopted the name HypnoEars.
